A form, a corner of a room, or even a word can be enough to begin. In Persian, curiosity is <em>konjk\u00e2vi<\/em>, literally \u201csearching corners.\u201d I return to places in much the same way, pools, tennis courts, ruins, and fragments of architecture, because each return reveals something different. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I am drawn to places that have lived more than one life, where a structure has changed its purpose, a pool has become a garden, or a ruin has slowly become part of the landscape. In the paintings, these places begin to overlap. Architecture moves toward landscape, water and weather reorganize space, and sometimes it becomes difficult to know where a wall ends and a mountain begins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Painting slows my thinking. I work in layers of acrylic, oil, graphite, ink, and pastel, often leaving earlier marks visible rather than covering them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">A graphite line can interrupt a painted form, scraped paint can expose an earlier decision, and something I thought was unimportant can become essential weeks later. I do not think of these marks simply as traces of process. They remain because I do not believe a painting should erase its own past. Like the places I return to, the paintings accumulate time. I want them to remain open long enough for something I had not anticipated to become visible.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I begin painting through curiosity.
